Computer RAM and SSD on Gold Coins

Why Your Old Laptop Parts Are Worth More Than Stocks: The 2025 Tech Inflation Analysis

If you've tried to upgrade your laptop or buy PC components in India recently, you've likely felt the sticker shock. As a Data & Business Analyst, I've been tracking a market anomaly that is outpacing the Nifty 50: The 220% surge in RAM and SSD prices.

I analyzed the "paper returns" of holding high-performance tech components versus traditional investments over the last 12 months. The results are startling.

Why is this Happening? (The "AI Tax")

This isn't standard inflation. My analysis points to three critical supply chain shifts:

  • Production Throttle: Major manufacturers intentionally cut production in 2023.
  • The Pivot to HBM: Factories are stopping consumer RAM production to build chips for AI Supercomputers.
  • The "AI Tax": You are paying for the AI boom. As servers gobble up NAND Flash, the cost of the "Budget PC" has tripled.

The Future Trend: Where Do We Go From Here?

Looking at the price tracking data from late 2024 to the present, the "Hockey Stick" curve is undeniable. But the real question is: What happens in Q3 2026?

My Q3 2026 Price Prediction Model

Based on the wafer supply contracts I reviewed, the prices are set to correct by roughly 15% in late October. However, three specific manufacturers have signaled a different strategy which will affect the Indian market specifically.

The Strategy Shift:

  • Strategy 1 (Inventory): Hoarding inventory now is a risk because new FABs are coming online. You might end up with depreciating assets.
  • Strategy 2 (Procurement): The specific SKU to buy right now is High-Capacity Gen 4 NVMe. Gen 5 prices will remain artificially inflated due to AI server demand.

  1. Inflation is everywhere prices of Petrol and Diesel also increased a lot ( you will show many excuses cuz you are fan of a particular political party, and you share many things which shouldn’t be shared in a group meant for studies) . But you can’t ignore the fact Bhutan which buys Petrol from India sells at a cheaper price than what we get in India 😂.

So i am not quite surprised seeing inflation here also, everything is fault of the Government.
